What Weeks Left is

Weeks Left is a single page that answers one question, instantly: how much of the year is left? The bar fills as the year passes, so you can read the answer at a glance — in days, weeks, or as a percentage. You can also zoom into a single month or a single day when the year-level view stops being useful.

It updates while the tab is open, it works offline once loaded, and it never asks you to create an account. There is no app to install and nothing to pay for.

Why it exists

The question "how many weeks are left?" comes up constantly — before a holiday deadline, a season finale, a launch, a school term, a fitness goal, a savings target. The answers people usually find are either a stale blog post, a spreadsheet they have to rebuild, or a search result that shows a static number written months ago.

Weeks Left exists to be the opposite of that: one number, always correct for right now, on a page that loads in a fraction of a second.

How it works

The page is generated once at build time and served as static files from Cloudflare Pages. All of the live calculation happens in your browser, which is why it keeps ticking without a server, and why it cannot see who you are.

• Your device's clock supplies the current date and time, so the counter matches your local time zone rather than ours.
• Progress is recalculated every minute while the page is open, and again whenever you switch scope.
• Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device. Scope and elapsed/remaining are not stored.
• The season colour wash follows the current date, so the page changes character through the year on its own.

Our principles

• No sign-up, ever. There is no account to create because there is nothing to log in to.
• No tracking. No analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no fingerprinting.
• Free and ad-free. The page is supported by nobody, which is why it can afford to be free.
• Readable by everyone. Keyboard navigable, screen-reader labelled, and calm under prefers-reduced-motion.
• Honest limitations. If a number looks wrong, we would rather you tell us than guess.

The site is a static build with almost no client-side JavaScript by design — the counter is the only interactive part of the page:

• Astro, for the static build and the page shell
• Tailwind CSS with CSS custom properties, for the theme and season tokens
• A vanilla TypeScript island, for the progress bar and its controls
• Canvas and CSS layers, for the liquid fill and the seasonal decoration
• Cloudflare Pages, for hosting and TLS

Who runs it

Weeks Left is a small, independent, solo project. There is no company behind it, no sales team, and no investor. Feedback, corrections, and feature requests are welcome and are read by the person who wrote the code.
